Q: How do I find out about a particular trial court case, past or current?

A: Check with the court where the case was filed. (You may find the main number of each court location throughout the state at www.courtinfo.ca.gov/courts/trial/. You'll see California Trial Court Judges, under which you are directed to "Use this listing to locate a trial court judge and the judge's court address and phone number." Counties are listed alphabetically, and within each county, courts and judges are listed.) If you can provide the court with some specific facts about the case, such as case number, case name, and date, the court may be able to assist you. Otherwise, the court may not be able to help you. Bear in mind that California has 89 trial court systems, many of which have several locations. In the state's trial courts alone, more than 8.7 million cases were filed in 1997-1998.
